BB Craft School, based in Strand, Cape Town, offers hands-on and online courses in woodworking, cupboard design, and furniture making. Since 2022, over 570 students have gained skills with us, online & in-person.
These courses are ideal for beginners, DIY enthusiasts, and anyone wanting to refine their skills.
Whether you're starting from scratch or have some experience, our courses provide a welcoming and hands-on learning environment. Students from across South Africa have joined us at our studio in Strand to develop their skills and gain practical knowledge with a variety of tools and materials.
The school's founder Brandt Bester began his full-time woodworking career in 2013, focusing on commercial manufacturing from the outset. This experience shaped his approach to woodworking, emphasising efficiency, the use of power tools, and practical techniques to achieve high-quality results.
Rather than adhering to traditional methods or relying on hand tools, Brandt has always prioritized tools and processes that maximise productivity and precision. This approach extended to training his staff, ensuring they quickly developed the necessary skills to contribute effectively to the business and its projects.
His passion for woodworking and teaching led him to establish BB Craft School in January 2022. The school focuses on equipping students with practical, results-driven skills across various areas, including cupboard building and installation, solid woodwork, and computer-based design training.

It is highly recommended to complete this course before attending the Woodworking 101 course. This online course is a complementary addition to the in-person Woodworking 101 course. This hands-on workshop is designed for beginners who want to build confidence using woodworking power tools in a fun, relaxed, and no-pressure environment. No prior experience?
No problem! You’ll get comfortable with essential tools while working on a practical project, a simple pine wooden box.
Though the project may be simple, it’s packed with valuable lessons! You’ll learn to measure, cut, drill, sand, and assemble while mastering various joinery techniques, including screws, biscuits, and pocket holes.
Safety is a top priority, and we’ll guide you through best practices for handling each power tool with confidence.
This is a practical, hands-on experience where you’ll learn by doing, without any pressure, just a fun day of woodworking!
By the end of the course, you’ll have a finished wooden box and a solid foundation for more advanced woodworking projects. This course is also a prerequisite for our 3-day courses, ensuring you have the essential skills to take on more complex builds.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll build a cupboard-style side table, learning key skills such as:
